Процесс образования покрытия при электроосаждении заключается в осаждении на поверхности изделия частиц лакокрасочного материала из водного раствора под воздействием электрического тока. При этом окрашиваемый предмет, являющийся анодом, погружается в ванну, корпус которой представляет собой катод. При пропускании через ванну постоянного тока краска равномерно осаждается на поверхности изделия. Участки поверхности, находящиеся в зоне максимальной плотности тока, окрашиваются благодаря . возрастанию изолирующего действия уже образовавшегося покрытия. При этом равномерное покрытие образуется даже на изделиях сложной конфигурации. Для удаления частиц лакокрасочного материала, которые прилипают в процессе окунания, окрашенную поверхность смывают дистиллированной водой и сушат горячим воздухом. Метод применяют в основном для нанесения грунтовочных покрытий. Ванна электроосаждения размещается в тоннеле, боковые стенки которого имеют остекление. Входной и выходной проемы полностью открыты для прохода конвейера с навешенными изделиями.
Вдоль ванны предусмотрена рабочая площадка для обслуживания установки во время ее бездействия.
Вход в тоннель при подаче напряжения на ванну исключается устройством соответствующей блокировки.
Для электроосаждения применяют водоразбавляемые лакокрасочные материалы, представляющие собой композиции, состоящие из пленкообразующих, пигментов и летучей части, в которой основную долю по объему занимает вода с добавками в виде органических растворителей, аминов и др. в количестве не более 5%.
